The petroleum industry has been the cornerstone of Nigeria’s economy, contributing around 90% of its export earnings and 40% of government revenue. With the enactment of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act (NOGICD) in 2010, the government sought to strengthen local participation in the industry by ensuring that Nigerian resources, expertise, and businesses play a more significant role in petroleum operations. This approach looks to foster national growth, build local capacity, and encourage job creation, while also ensuring the long-term sustainability of the sector.
